About our neonatal service

Our neonatal team look after infants who need ongoing medical care.

We aim to provide you with seamless, high quality care, whether you're being seen by our maternity team, our paediatricians, or by one of our community services.

We have a Level 2 Neonatal Unit, which cares for babies of 27 weeks or more. This includes babies:

  • who are premature
  • who have difficulty in breathing
  • whose mothers might have had complications during their pregnancy.

Our unit includes 8 intensive therapy / high dependency unit cots, 16 special care cots and three transitional care support cots.

Conditions cared for by our neonatal service

Our neonatal team will help to support you and your family if your baby:

  • is premature
  • has breathing difficulties which mean that they need respiratory support (such as ventilation)
  • has jaundice, which means that they might need phototherapy support
  • has an infection which needs antibiotic therapy
  • has feeding problems, which mean that they might need intravenous therapy support.
