About our colposcopy service

A colposcopy is a simple procedure used to look at the cervix, which is the lower part of the womb at the top of the vagina. Our specialist doctors and nurses will help to diagnose and care for you if you have had an abnormal smear test.

We offer a full range of colposcopy clinics depending on the reason why your doctor has referred you.

We have several different clinics which you might visit, depending on what you need.

Referral, or new appointment

At this appointment, you will have a colposcopy examination, where our team will perform a test to confirm a diagnosis, and will check to see whether you may need some small treatment of your cervix.

See and treat appointment

This is a one-stop clinic where you can have your initial examination and treatment on the same day, if our team think that's best for you.

Nurse-led smear clinics

If you need some ongoing care at hospital but are at low risk of developing cervical cancer, you can have your smear performed by one of our specially trained nurses.

Post-treatment clinic

If you've received treatment for pre-cancer of the cervix, our team will look after you at this clinic.
