Care platform helps saves more than 20,000 bed days

A care co-ordination platform that helps the trust provide acute-level care in patients’ homes has saved more than 20,000 ‘bed days’ in a year by helping support early discharges and reducing admissions.

Infinity supports the work of the Short-Term Assessment, Rehabilitation and Reablement Service (STARRS) who use it to manage and coordinate their workload as well as communicate with one another.

It replaces paper lists, telephone calls and face-to-face handovers with staff seeing an average of ten patients a day compared to seven patients when the platform was first introduced in 2020.

The number of tasks completed by the team has also risen by 65%.

STARRS currently provide care for 3,732 patients who would otherwise stay in hospital for an additional five days saving the trust 20,899 bed days.

Senior nurse Ambika Gurung said:“I can download the app on my phone and have all my tasks and patient information in front of me. It helps me save time and prioritise safe and effective care for my patients. We couldn’t have done this before.”

Devaneson Robert, STARRS Service Manager, added; “Infinity has helped us to manage our caseload safely and efficiently and support more patients’ recovery in their own home. This, in turn, helps free up beds for patients who need to receive treatment in hospital.”
