Surgeon's bid to become vice-president of royal college

Congratulations to Bhavin Visavadia who will be the first surgeon from the hospital trust to be nominated for the vice presidency for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

“It's a real honour to be in the running,” says the maxillo-facial surgeon who says one of his priorities would be greater care for clinicians' wellbeing.

“I saw the strain the workforce underwent during and after the pandemic and the resulting attrition and burnout reinforced my belief that modern healthcare must actively support clinicians, not just train them.”

As a result, Bhavin himself trained and qualified as a coach and mentor which he now uses in leadership practice.

“My mantra is 'excellence, everywhere, every time, for everyone.'

Bhavin's various leadership roles have included being vice president of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, regional director of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Mentorship Lead and Deputy Chair of the Global Surgery Programme.

If you are a surgeon, please consider lending your support to Bhavin whose key objectives will be:

• Supporting clinical leaders to develop coaching skills

• Promoting wellbeing, inclusion and workforce retention

 • Strengthening cross-speciality learning

• Ensuring the college is an accessible and authoritative presence.
