The tea bar with a heart
They sell the cheapest cup of tea in the trust which, in these times of austerity, should see punters flock back to Pulse Finders Tea Bar at Northwick Park.
The bar reopened for business after a two-year absence and volunteers haven’t wasted time by donating £9,000 for a new bladder scanner for Crick and Darwin wards.
“We started in the 90s and inherited a couple of bags of crisps and some biscuits left by the previous person,” says Leslie Gotts, a former publican and one of its longest serving members.
“The majority of us were treated at the hospital for heart conditions and just wanted to give something back. I’ve got a lot out of volunteering. It’s nice to do your bit and help other less fortunate than yourselves.”
The bar, located opposite physiotherapy reception, is reassuringly old school and who could argue with tea and coffee under a pound and guilty pleasures like Bovril, Cheesy Wotsits and Maltesers on offer.
Pulse Finders had to shut up shop during the pandemic and is now looking for new volunteers who might be interested in working a four- hour shift once a week.
