Sue's summer switch off

The phones finally stop ringing for Sue Pearson this summer when she hangs up her handset after nearly 25 years on the switchboard.

Sue and her colleagues collectively answer several thousand calls a day but the supervisor says she rarely picks up the phone at home.

“I like a bit of peace and quiet when I’m not at work.”

The trust’s switchboard can answer up to 2,000 calls on a busy day as well as managing medical emergencies within the hospitals and monitoring fire alarms.

Sue must have had her fair share of unusual requests?

“I got a call one Christmas from a family saying a relative had passed away and could they put her in the car boot and drop her off at the hospital. I said no that was not appropriate!”

Sue is one of thousands of non-clinical staff we are celebrating today as part of Administrative Professionals Day.
