Silpa takes a bow

Congratulations to Silpa Chandran who has won a national Support Worker Excellence Award.

The healthcare support worker (HSW) at St Mark's National Bowel Hospital was recognised in the Working Together for Patients category at the annual Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Midwifery Awards.

Lisa Younge, IBD Nurse Consultant, said: “Silpa has been with us for three years and is a real asset to the team. It's quite unusual to have an HSW in this sort of role as it is usually filled by a nurse.

“We have a busy infusion unit which treats up to 4,000 patients a year with inflammatory bowel disease and Silpa has taken on responsibilities well beyond her original role from supporting phlebotomy requests and patient check-ins to managing stock and email communications.”
