Nurse returns to help vaccinate staff
One flu vaccinator doing the rounds this year is also one of the trust's - albeit now retired - longest serving employees.
Hansa Varia started working for Northwick Park in 1981 and has come back as bank staff for the past five years to help with the trust's annual flu vaccination programme.
You'd think an infectious diseases nurse would be the first to catch something, but Hansa has never had the flu.
“I got through the pandemic for a whole year before catching Covid-19. That was bad timing. I missed my own retirement party!”
She spent her career in infectious diseases tackling everything from flu and SARS to TB, and Covid-19.
Hansa added: “I vaccinate around 1,500 staff a year. There is no pressure to have the jab but I'm still surprised by some of the reasons people give for not having it, such as not liking needles - it barely feels like a scratch - or that it gives you a mild dose of the flu which it doesn't.”
