North West London Acute Provider Group formally established

The four acute hospital trusts in north west London, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, have formally come together as the North West London Acute Provider Group.

The move builds on existing collaboration and reflects a shared commitment to working more closely together, simplifying decision-making, making the best use of combined resources and expertise, to improve care for patients and local communities.

As part of this change, Professor Tim Orchard has taken on the role of Group Chief Executive and accountable officer across all four trusts. Each organisation will continue to have its own chief executive and leadership team, responsible for the day-to-day running of services.

Matthew Swindells, who as the first chair enabled the successful development of the collaborative since 2022, has now stepped down, with Bob Alexander OBE appointed as Interim Chair while we begin the process to recruit a permanent Chair.

The Group begins this next phase from a strong position. The latest NHS league tables show improved performance across all four trusts, with three partners in the top segment and one in the second. Coming together will enable building on what has already been achieved and strengthening the response to the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Professor Tim Orchard, Group Chief Executive, said: “We are building on a long history of working together to strengthen our response to the opportunities and challenges ahead. By working more closely as a Group, we are better placed to make the best use of our collective resources, expertise and influence for the benefit of our patients, local communities and staff.”

Each organisation and hospital will continue to play its own important role, with its identity and strengths remaining central to how care is delivered across the Group.

Engagement to shape how the Group works and its future priorities is ongoing, with further opportunities for staff, patients and local communities to be involved in the coming months.
