LNWH most improved in London

London North West University Healthcare has been ranked the most improved trust in London and the seventh most improved across the country since April 2025 in the NHS's new national oversight framework.

The latest figures mean that the Trust is now ranked 16th in the list of more than 130 acute trusts nationally - the highest it has ever achieved.

As a result, it has also climbed to category 1 of the framework for the first time under the new system, which was introduced this financial year.

The framework uses metrics for a range of areas, including A&E waiting times, waiting times for diagnostic tests and treatment, and financial position, to rank the overall performance of trusts across the country. Trusts that do not meet their financial plan or that are in deficit cannot be placed higher than category 3.

LNWH's latest ranking reflects improvements and high performance in many of these areas, as it:

  • improved its standardised hospital mortality rate, meaning that fewer people than expected die in its hospitals
  • reduced its rate of hospital acquired infections, including C. difficile
  • reduced the number of patients who wait 12 hours or more in A&E to be admitted
  • continued to diagnose people with suspected cancer more swiftly than before
  • continued to treat more people with cancer within 62 days - making the Trust the fifth highest performer in the country for this metric
  • continued to treat more patients within 18 weeks than planned
  • met its financial plan.

Chief Executive Pippa Nightingale said: “These results are a fantastic recognition of our teams' incredible efforts and commitment so far this year.

“And of course they are also a reflection of real, on the ground improvements in the care we give our patients - from outcomes to experience.

“We are very proud that our services have made such impressive improvements in the face of a very pressurised year.

“There's always more for us to do, and we're looking forward to building on these improvements, but these results are a clear sign that we're doing the right thing to offer better, more sustainable care for our communities.”
