Jill puts her feet up after 40 years of physio

A long serving NHS physiotherapist is retiring.

Jill Stokes's 40-year career specialising in respiratory, vascular and critical care including working at Harefield, Watford and Northwick Park hospital where she has spent the final decade of her career. 

She primarily worked with amputees as well as complex critical care and surgical patients.

Jill played a major role in staff training and mentored hundreds of physiotherapists and students. 

She played a prominent role during the Covid-19 pandemic where she supported clinical colleagues as a nursing buddy; delivered extensive respiratory physiotherapy, tracheostomy weaning and rehabilitation of recovering patients; and held debrief sessions with staff who felt overwhelmed providing a kind and reassuring presence. 

Jill was also an advocate for the bariatric patient cohort advising staff on appropriate equipment, rehabilitation and managing difficult conversations when required.
