ITV focus on Ealing

An ITV film crew came to Ealing this week to see how Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and virtual wards are helping ease pressure on A&E and avoid hospital admissions.

Health Editor Emily Morgan talked with several members of staff including Dr Harmandeep Singh, diabetes nurse consultant Sharon McCarthy and matron Maria Rigor.

IVV journalist talks to patientSDEC sees up to 40 patients a day who would otherwise end up in A&E, while the virtual wards are now helping manage several hundred patients at home.

Dr Harmandeep Singh, Virtual Wards Project Director, said: “Using digital technologies and specialised staff we can avoid unnecessary admissions and get patients who are in hospital home quicker with the safety net of them being remotely monitored.”

The trust has virtual wards for heartfailure, respiratory, infectious diseases and diabetes with additional wards planned for ear, nose and throat and end-of-life care.

The news story will be broadcast tonight (Thur) on ITV on the 6.30 and 10.30pm shows.
