Hospital’s room of happy memories

A reminiscence room will provide a reassuring space for patients living with dementia in Northwick Park Hospital.

The room, which has been given a homely feel with 1940s-50s décor, a refreshment area, and TV where patients can watch films.

It has been funded by LNWH Charity with a special thanks to everyone who took part in the charity's virtual marathon whose efforts contributed to the fundraising.

Alex Lukjaniec. Matron for Older People and Dementia Services, said: “Hospitals can be a very disorientating place for people living with dementia or delirium and this is a safe haven where they can relax in a more familiar homely environment.

“These patients often have surprising clarity about events that happened years before and the reminiscence room will hopefully stimulate them and bring back happy memories. It’s the trust’s first reminiscence room.”

At present, around 25% of all hospital admissions have dementia in north west London.
