Filipino nurses celebrate 25 years in Ealing

An estimated 40,000 Filipinos work in the NHS and Sheila Cuesta was one of the first to arrive in 2000 at Ealing Hospital.

Sheila still works at the hospital 25 years later as a senior sister in A&E and has never felt the need to move.

“Fifty-six of us came to Ealing and 19 of us are still here. My colleagues are my second family. I have made a lot of friends here over the years.

“The food and weather took some getting used but I remember when it snowed for the first time. That was just magical.”
