Centenerain celebrates with cake

Central Middlesex Hospital put the red carpet treatment on for patient Taraben Mavani who has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Taraben had been a patient at the eye clinic for several years when employee Charlene Cope noticed the mother of six was due to become a centenarian and duly ordered a celebration cake and sparkling wine to celebrate.

Taraben Mavani and daughter Ella celebrate 100th birthday at CMH Taraben was born in India in 1924, the eldest of five siblings. The family emigrated to Africa and then to the UK in 1968.

“My mum has had a tough life but she has always got a smile on her face and puts her longevity down to drinking lots of full fat milk and being a life-long vegetarian,” said daughter Ella.

The centenarian doesn’t watch TV but is kept busy with five daughters, a son, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

“Mum is very sociable and loves talking to people. She spends a lot of time chatting on the phone.”
