Beryl Carr named as one of UK's happiest Britons

Beryl voted one UK's happiest Brits

Ealing Hospital volunteer Beryl Carr gained further plaudits when she was named as one of the 50 happiest Britons.

The NHS’s oldest volunteer made The Independent newspaper’s Happy List which celebrates inspirational figures.

The 100-year-old, who has worked in Friend’s Café for the past 20 years, was joined by other successful nominees including a couple who have fostered more than 250 vulnerable children, and a man who donated his house to Ukrainian refugees.

The Happy List was founded in 2008 to counter awards glorifying wealth or celebrity by celebrating the achievements of ordinary people making a positive change to others’ lives.

Beryl said: “The great thing about volunteering is that you are helping other people but in funny way you are helping yourself as well.”
