About our colposcopy service
A colposcopy is a simple test that lets us take a closer look at the cervix, the lower part of the womb at the top of the vagina, using a special microscope. This test can confirm whether cells in your cervix are abnormal and if treatment is needed to remove them.
Sometimes abnormal cells go away on their own, but if they don't, they could turn into cervical cancer. Our specialist doctors and nurses will help to diagnose and care for you.
We have a range of colposcopy services depending on the reason why your doctor or cervical smear laboratory has referred you.
Referral, or new appointment
At this appointment, you will have a colposcopy examination. Our team will perform a test to confirm a diagnosis, and will check to see whether you may need treatment of your cervix.
Nurse-led smear clinics
If you're under our care and at low risk of developing cervical cancer, you can have your smear performed by one of our specially trained nurses.
Post-treatment clinic
If you've received treatment for pre-cancer of the cervix, our team will look after you at this clinic.
