Help and support during your stay or visit
We understand that you may need some extra help from time-to-time, which is why we offer a range of help and support for people who need it.
Our mental wellbeing is an important part of our overall health. It’s what helps us not only cope with life and its challenges, but also do well and feel good about ourselves and the world around us.
We get help, or we see a doctor when we feel sick, when we need medicine or when we’re hurt.
It’s the same when we’re not feeling mentally well, and it’s just as important.
We’ve put together some links and resources that you, or someone close to you, may find helpful.
If you, or your children, are facing a difficult home life, please speak to your child’s mental health professional, or one of the charities below.
Difficulties may include:
- Illness and disabilities (for example where a young person is the primary carer for an adult)
- Violence from another adult
- Money issues
- Not having enough food and drink for everyone
- Young Carers provide help and support for young carers under the age of 18
An education can open up new opportunities, giving you a chance to live the life you want.
We spend a lot time at school so it’s important you feel happy and comfortable there.
If you’re struggling at school with school work, friendships, or if you need to go to work instead of going to school, please speak to a teacher you trust.

Eating and your body
We all want to look good and feel good. This is normal, especially for a young person whose body is changing so quickly.
If you’re concerned about your eating or fitness habits, or you’re worried about your body image, help is available.

Hobbies, activities, and things to do in your spare time are great for your personal development. They can help you form great friendship groups and support network outside of school.
Drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
If you’re worried drugs are having a negative effect on your life, please speak up and get help.
You might be using drugs for fun, to harm yourself, or you might be selling, transporting, or distributing drugs.
Either way, help is available.
You may be starting to develop intimate relationships: it’s a new feeling, so you might find it difficult or challenging.
Questions about your body, sex, sexual health or relationships are completely normal.
It’s important you get the right information for a trusted source – like an adult you know or trust, or trusted websites like these.

- Terrence Higgins Trust is a charity which runs services for people with HIV. They also campaign for people and families who’ve been affected by HIV, and they promote good sexual health and safe sex.
