Paediatric Physiotherapy

Paediatric Physiotherapy involves working with children and young people who have mobility, developmental, neurological or orthopaedic conditions.

Physiotherapists are allied health professionals who aim to provide a high-quality, needs-led service to children and young people who. Working in partnership with the children, their parents or carers, other health, education and social services professionals and voluntary bodies is integral in achieving this. 

Physiotherapists may work with children with:

  • Developmental delay
  • Neurological conditions
  • Genetic conditions
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Musculoskeletal conditions.

The service provided (including ages of children seen, referral criteria, and types of conditions seen) will differ depending on your locality.

Brent Community Services
Children may receive therapy at various locations in Brent, including

  • Clinics
  • Mainstream or special schools
  • Nurseries
  • Children’s centres
  • Patient’s home. 

Your child will be allocated a named physiotherapist, from the following four teams:

Ealing Community Services 
The main service base for the Ealing paediatric physiotherapy team is Carmelita House, Ealing Broadway. However, services are delivered out of a number of locations as listed below:

  • Early years settings, e.g. playgroups, nurseries and children’s centres
  • Home-based intervention to assess/set up equipment and advise family.
  • Special schools
  • Mainstream schools
  • Paediatric Physiotherapy clinics are held weekly at Carmelita House, Featherstone Road Clinic, and Grand Union Village Health Centre. This includes Joint Physiotherapy/Occupational Clinics held at Carmelita House
  • Multi-disciplinary clinics with the Child Development Team (CDT) within Ealing Service 
  • For Children With Additional Needs (ESCAN) are held at Carmelita House
  • Acute clinic at Ealing Hospital for post fracture/trauma.

Harrow Community Services 
The team is based in Chaucer Unit, on Level 3 of the main ward block at Northwick Park Hospital.

We work in partnerships with the children and young people, their parents or carers, other health, education, and social services professionals and voluntary bodies. Intervention is carried out in the following settings:

  • Alexandra Avenue Health and Social Care Centre
  • Northwick Park Hospital - Jack’s Place, NNU, and Chaucer Unit
  • Harrow Schools - Primary and Secondary Mainstream and Special Schools
  • Harrow nurseries and children centres.
