Thanks to the Friends of St. Mark’s Hospital, yesterday saw the official unveiling of exciting new artwork at London North West Healthcare University Healthcare NHS Trust. Created by students from The Westminster School of Art and Design, the artwork depicts scenes celebrating nature.
Gillian Rodrigues, Friends of St. Mark’s Hospital Chairperson said: “With the Westminster School of Art and Design as our next door neighbours, it would be a great shame not to harness the students’ positive energy and creativity to enhance the atmosphere of the hospital. Thank you to Emma Dodson, Senior Lecturer in the School for co-ordinating this wonderful project. We hope patients, visitors and staff will enjoy the exhibition, which we intend to renew annually.”
There is in inreasing evidence that visual art can have a positive effect on patients and artwork has been displayed in the link corridor between St. Mark’s and Northwick Park Hospital since 1995. The Friends of St. Mark’s Hospital originally funded the annually changing display, but in 2014 they paid for the installation of a special hanging system to display art by students of Westminster School of Art and Design.
The Friends of St. Mark’s Hospital raises funds to provide extras for patients of this specialist, postgraduate, teaching hospital, who come from all over the country for treatment.
