Breast feeding service

The Harrow breast feeding service is delivered by a specialist health visitor, peer support co-ordinators and volunteers. There are currently 30 volunteers from different ethnic backgrounds who speak 25 different languages. So all mothers regardless of the language barriers, have the same level of access to services. We are always looking for new volunteers so get in touch if you're interested!

The service aims to give advice and help and support breast feeding mothers form the new-born to weaning stages with any feeding problems.

The service is delivered in both Harrow community service settings and at Northwick Park Hospital. Both offer breastfeeding support groups and support for mothers in the hospital postnatal ward and neonatal unit. All new mothers are informed or referred to our service by their midwives and health visitors that are run every week day, within walking distance for all mothers in the borough of Harrow.

All our team members have completed specialist training and experience in all aspects of supporting sustainable breast feeding for Mothers and babies. We pride ourselves in delivering a high standard of care and have achieved and sustained UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation since 2005.

We also now have a breastfeeding helpline, a breastfeeding in Harrow website, a Facebook page and twitter account all run by volunteer peer supporters.
