Parents and Practitioners

  • Overview of early language development in children under 3
  • Practical advice and strategies for  parents and practitioners to support their child’s early language development

  • Suitable for families and practitioners of children over 2 ½ years who have concerns about their child’s pronunciation of sounds/words (e.g., the child mixes up speech-sounds and says ‘tat’ instead of ‘cat’). 
  • Brief overview of typical speech-sound development in children. 
  • Practical advice and strategies for parents and practitioners on supporting their child’s speech sound development

 

  • Suitable for families and practitioners who are concerned about their child’s fluency development 
  • General information and advice for parents and practitioners for supporting their child’s fluency development 

 

  • Suitable for those who are interested in finding out about Makaton or who would like to attend a Beginners or Foundation Workshop at a later date
  • General insight into what Makaton is, who uses it and how to use Makaton in your setting and/or at home 
  • Learn around 30 signs and symbols! 

 

  • Suitable for families and  practitioners who have noticed their child is shy, quiet or anxious around talking 
  • Suitable for families or practitioners who are concerned about their child’s confidence to speak in some situations 
  • Practical advice and strategies for parents and practitioners to support their child’s confidence with talking  

 

For Parents ONLY

Suitable for parents who:

  • Have concerns regarding your child’s social communication? 
  • Whose child is waiting for an autism assessment/social communication assessment?
  • Whose child has been recently diagnosed with autism but you have not yet completed the Early Bird training?
  • Want practical advice to support their child’s communication skills, sleeping, eating, and toileting.  

Training for Parents: Supporting Everyday Experiences

For Practitioners ONLY

Session 1 provides foundation information on Autism Spectrum Disorder including:

  • To develop an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) 
  • To be able to identify potential signs of ASD  
  • To raise concerns to families about children you are working with 
  • To know how to refer onto other services locally (e.g. who’s who, and an overview of the referral process)  

Session 2 focuses on supporting a child with ASD in a nursery setting including:  

  • To understand the importance of the environment 
  • To develop awareness of the relationship between language and behaviour  
  • To learn practical strategies to support the child’s communication in the nursery setting 
  • To learn about further training courses/CPD opportunities

 

  • Part 1 – Babies and Toddlers Speech, Language and Communication Development is designed to provide foundation information on how speech, language and communication develops in children and what can go wrong.  
  • Part 2 – Working with Under Threes to Support Speech, Language and Communication Development focuses on how practitioners can support speech, language and communication development with children aged between 0 and 3 years.  
  • Part 3 -  Working with Parents and Families to Support Young Children’s Speech,  Language and Communication Development focuses on working with parents and families so that they can be better placed to support their children’s speech, language and communication development.

 

We are also involved in the Local Authority’s training for childminders and SENCOs.
