The support listed here is available for any family who is concerned about their child's communication development (no referral is required):

Talk and Play is a stay and play type of group that is run by speech and language therapists and early years practitioners. We provide strategies that will help families support their children’s communication skills through play. There is no need for referral and parents can just drop in and have fun. We run these in different venues across Ealing.

“Look and Listen” is a play-based group for children under 5 with attention and social interaction difficulties (i.e. difficulties with: eye contact, playing with peers, understanding what is happening around them, focusing on activities). 

The group is run by Speech and Language Therapists and/or Early Years Practitioners.

The group is aimed at providing families with strategies to support their child’s attention and social interaction difficulties. 

Sessions run weekly for 5 weeks (term time only). Please arrive on time. 

Your child does not need a referral to Speech and Language Therapy services to attend this group.

Our Speech and Language Therapy team will be attending each children's centre in Ealing on a rotational basis.  This is an opportunity for parents/carers to meet a Speech and Language Therapist to seek advice/support about their child’s speech, language and communication development.  The Speech and Language Therapist will attend the centre’s normal stay and play session.   No booking required.

We run workshops termly where parents and practitioners can sign up to attend and find out more information on the following areas: 

  • language development (under 3's)    
  • language development (over 3's)
  • speech development
  • Shy, quiet and anxious talkers 
  • stammering  
  • Makaton taster  

The purpose of the workshops is to provide families with information on typical development and to give advice/recommendations for developing their child’s speech, language and communication skills at home. These sessions are for parents and practitioners only, no children will be allowed in the session therefore alternative childcare has to be arranged by parents.

For Parents ONLY

Suitable for parents who:

  • Have concerns regarding your child’s social communication? 
  • Whose child is waiting for an autism assessment/social communication assessment?
  • Whose child has been recently diagnosed with autism but you have not yet completed the Early Bird training?
  • Want practical advice to support their child’s communication skills, sleeping, eating, and toileting.  

Training for Parents: Supporting Everyday Experiences

If you have a child aged between 0 and 5 years old you can receive free parenting support and a range of children’s activities in Children’s Centres across the borough.

The support listed here is only available for families who do have a referral for speech and language therapy:

After an initial assessment, the speech and language therapist will discuss the next steps for your child. This may include:

  • one to one / group therapy
  • discharge with advice
  • support at mainstream nurseries
  • referral to other services

Children with significant speech and language difficulties can receive intensive Speech and Language therapy support that is available at 3 nurseries across Ealing including South Acton Children’s Centre, St John’s Primary School and Downe Manor Primary School.

Daily speech and language support is provided to eligible children within the mainstream nursery setting as part of the everyday routine.

I CAN Specialist Accredited Speech and Language Nursery Provisions in Ealing

Children with additional needs and / or 2-year old funding can apply to attend a specialist nursery setting. Speech and language therapy is available within those settings and the nursery practitioners and speech and language therapy team work closely together. This support is available at 3 nurseries across Ealing including: South Acton Children’s Centre, Windmill Children’s Centre and Greenfields Children’s Centre.
