Urology

The Urology department provides care for patients at Central Middlesex, Ealing and Northwick Park and St Mark's Hospitals. You can read more about our services below.


Central Middlesex, Northwick Park and St Marks Hospitals 
We offer a full range of services at Central Middlesex, Northwick Park and St Mark's Hospitals which cover a wide variety of conditions. We provide full diagnostic and outpatient services at both sites with day and short stay surgery at Central Middlesex, and day, short stay and complex surgery at Northwick Park. Northwick Park is a designated centre for urological cancers.

Cancer and minimally invasive surgery:
Our Consultants provide a full range of minimally invasive (key hole) surgery for both benign and malignant conditions, such as bladder, prostate and kidney cancer and benign kidney diseases. Our Consultants are faculty members internationally and nationally for laparoscopic training. We are the lead centres for Cancer diagnostics and management for Brent, Ealing and Harrow. We have a weekly local MDT, with complex cases being discussed at the Local Cancer Network MDT and The Royal Marsden MDT as appropriate.

Stone disease (kidney stones): 
We provide a full-spectrum stone service including outpatient treatments and minimally invasive ureteroscopic treatment (We have LASER sited at Central Middlesex and Northwick Park Hospitals), ESWL (Shock Wave therapy) based at Central Middlesex Hospital, PCNL (Minimally invasive therapy for kidney stones). We have a weekly stone MDT where all complex stones are discussed.

Female urology and reconstruction:
We offer diagnostic for all incontinence problems in male and female patients. We treat the very common overactive bladder, and current offer Botox being one of the first centres in the UK to offer Botox treatment for bladder problems in the NHS. We offer treatments for Stress Urinary Incontinence, including Injections, Tape procedures for female incontinence. We also offer ‘Mesh Free’ incontinence procedures for female patient. We have a regular Incontinence MDT as recommended by NICE.

The Urology Consultants are involved with the planning and reconstruction of the Complex Cases that are referred to the internationally renowned St Mark’s Hospitals.

Paediatric urology
We offer diagnostic paediatric urology, performing day case surgery for inguino-scrotal pathology locally. We refer our more complex patients to the local specialist centres.

Benign urology
We are able to offer the full and holistic management for benign conditions in males and female patients.

Training the doctors of the future
We are a training site for urology in the North Thames region. Our Consultants are heavily involved with this important aspect of medical practice, both at a National and Local Level. They are involved in examining the ‘Consultants to be’ and we run the highly successful FRCS(Urol) Viva course for those about to take the exit exam.

We are linked with Imperial College Medical School and teach undergraduate medical students.

Ealing Hospital

Ealing Hospital has dedicated urology team providing a high standard of care for patients with urological problems. The team carries out day case and inpatient surgery, dealing with problems such as kidney stones, kidney blockage, difficulty passing urine in both men and women, urinary tract infections, incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

We acknowledge that while some of these conditions are not life threatening they can cause severe disruption to the quality of life. We use both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

The urology department is located in Area 3, on the ground floor of the ACAD centre.

The lithotripsy service is located in Area 4 in the radiology department of ACAD.

Northwick Park and St Mark's Hospital 
Outpatients is located in Clinics 11 and 12 (Level 5) in Northwick Park Hospital main outpatient department.

The Paediatric clinic is held on Jack's Place (Level 3 of main ward block). Urology patients having elective surgery are admitted to ACAD unit at Central Middlesex Hospital and emergency patients are admitted to Level 3 on Jack’s Place at Northwick Park Hospital.
