Training opportunities are available for pre-registration Trainee Pharmacists, pre-registration Pharmacists and 3rd year Pharmacy undergraduates (summer placement)
Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician
This training involves undertaking a two year national vocational qualification, a level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills. Students will be required to complete and provide evidence of their learning in the workplace via an electronic portfolio.
In addition trainees will gain pharmaceutical knowledge by undertaking the two year BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy Services which covers all aspects of pharmacy including actions of uses of drugs, law and ethics and pharmaceutics.
Entry requirements for potential applicants for this training post are a minimum of four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including Mathematics, English and Science.
Applicants must be motivated, organised and committed in order to successfully complete the two year training post. Good written and verbal communication skills and numeracy skills are essential.
Mature students who do not meet these formal requirements may still be considered, providing that they can demonstrate adequate numeracy and literacy skills

All sites offer a well-structured pre-registration training programme with specific objectives and activities together with the support of an allocated tutor for the year. Trainees will rotate and gain experience in all the relevant areas in order to achieve competence at the performance standards stated by the GPhC. All sites offer at least two weeks of community cross sector training in order to develop OTC knowledge and counselling skills.
Education and Training is a high priority within the Trust. Regular meetings are scheduled to develop clinical knowledge and skills. Calculation tests and training sessions are organised throughout the year to build confidence and competence for the final exam.
- The training year comprises a diverse cross site rotational scheme covering all aspects of the hospital pharmacy service.
- The clinical rotations are supported throughout the year by monthly clinical afternoons, weekly drug of the week presentations and prescription monitoring exercises.
- Attendance at daily ward visits within the first few weeks of the programme and continuing throughout the year ensures early development of clinical and problem solving skills.

Summer vacational students
The Trust provides unpaid summer vacation placements for undergraduate pharmacy students across all three sites; preference is given to third year pharmacy students.
A total of 15 students are offered the opportunity to undertake the four weeks summer vacational programme at the Northwick Park, Central Middlesex and Ealing Hospital sites. opportunity to gain good hospital experience in different sections such as medicines information, technical services, dispensary, clinical wards as well as possibility of being involved in a clinical project.
