If you are visiting one of our hospitals because your GP has recommended you see a specialist, you will be given an outpatients appointment. This means you will visit an outpatient clinic for a few hours and then return home again, you will not stay in the hospital overnight.
Please double-check your letter to make sure that you arrive on the right date for your appointment. Your GP will normally have explained any special instructions about eating or drinking before your appointment but check your letter.
When you arrive at the outpatients department, (the location will be stated on your appointment letter) you need to register your attendance at the outpatient’s reception desk before you take a seat. It is important that you do register otherwise the doctor will not know you are waiting and you will not be called for your appointment.
If you have to travel by car please allow extra time, as car parking can be very difficult at peak times.
Outpatient clinics are held for all different medical conditions. For more information on the department you are visiting, please go to the departmental page in the service A-Z.
