Adult Occupational Therapy

The Adult Occupational Therapy department provides services to inpatients and outpatients across both Central Middlesex, Ealing and Northwick Park hospital sites. Occupational therapists assist people to gain maximum independence to perform activities of daily living. 

Our services

Central Middlesex, Northwick Park and St Mark's Hospitals
The main focus of inpatient occupational therapy assessment is to facilitate a safe discharge from the hospital to the community. This may include:

  • Home visits
  • Referral for equipment
  • Education of carers.

Within inpatients, the occupational therapists assess and treat patients with the following conditions:

  • Stroke and Neuro
  • Cardiology
  • Vascular conditions including amputations
  • Respiratory
  • Elderly care
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Rehabilitation is also provided as part of the multidisciplinary team incorporating goal-setting.

The hand therapy service provides assessment, treatment and individually-made splints.  Education for patients with arthritis is provided within a group setting.

Within outpatients, the service runs a hand therapy unit which includes:

  • Trauma
  • Hand Surgery
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Osteo-arthritis


Ealing Hospital
Occupational Therapy is provided as part of the multidisciplinary team input, providing acute rehabilitation to patients admitted to Ealing hospital. The main focus of inpatient occupational therapy assessment is to facilitate a safe discharge from the hospital into the community.

This may include:

  • Home visits/Access Visits
  • Equipment Prescription
  • Education of family carers.

Within inpatients, the occupational therapists assess and treat patients in the following clinical areas:

Medicine

  • Cardiology
  • Respiratory
  • Medicine for older persons
  • Neurological deficits
  • Infectious diseases.

Surgical

  • Trauma and elective orthopaedics.
  • Vascular conditions including amputations
  • Gastroenterology and endocrinology

Out Patient Occupational Therapy (Hand Therapy)
The hand therapy service provides assessment, treatment and individually-made splints. Education for patients with arthritis is provided.

Within outpatients, the occupational therapists assess and treat patients with the following conditions:

  • Elective and trauma Hand Surgery
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Osteo-arthritis.

Central Middlesex Hospital

The occupational therapy department is based on Gladstone 4, on the first floor at Central Middlesex Hospital.
