Maternity Breastfeeding

Our aim is to help you feed your baby and support you and your family to bond with your baby.  Building a happy baby involves love and closeness.  Loving cuddles are good for your baby's brain.  Happy babies make happy children who become happy adults.

The leaflet Building a happy baby: A guide for parents is a good place to start finding out more about this and also the short video below on Breastfeeding and relationships in the early days.

We thank Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative www.babyfriendly.org.uk for preparing this video.

Infosheets in various foreign languages to support parents with basics of feeding and responding to their baby can be found on the Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative website.

Parent resources that covers various aspects of parenthood, getting to know your baby and supporting brain development can be found on the The Association for Infant Mental Health UK (AIMH) website and registration for parents is free.

The value of breastmilk

There are many reasons to breastfeed and the benefits include increasing your baby's immunity to ear infections, chest infections and allergies.  Breastfeeding also lowers the risk of ovarian cancer, breast cancer and osteoporosis in mothers. Talk to your midwife or Health Visitor for more information.
