Trust win award for roster excellence
LNWH has won a national award for its work encouraging more than 300 nurses to make greater use of electronic rosters.
The e-rostering team picked up top prize in the ‘Operational Roster Excellence’ category at the annual Allocate Awards.
The trust has been using HealthRoster software for ten years but found many staff still relying on paper rosters with requests written down.
Further investigation revealed no dedicated training or support programme compounded by incorrect information and an out-of-date rostering policy
The team first reviewed the rosters and rostering policy and then allocated additional resource to train staff and explain the benefits of effective rostering.
The biggest challenge was changing the behaviours and perceptions about moving away from paper rostering which, for some staff, had worked well in some areas for more than 30 years.
Net hours started to improve as staff began using the system leading to a reduction in temporary staffing requests and use of agency staff.
The scheme is being rolled out across the rest of the trust.
