Chair and Non-Executive Directors

Peter Worthington - Chair

Peter has significant experience in the NHS and the commercial sector and held various non-executive positions in commissioning with NHS North West London. He joined The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust as chairman in December 2012 and was confirmed by the NHS Trust Development Authority as the Chair of London North West Healthcare NHS Trust in September 2014. 

Peter’s career has focused on international energy/natural resources sector. He is a co-founder of a small African focused oil and gas exploration and development  venture. Previously he spent more than 30 years in senior management and commercial positions with global natural resources companies BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto (CRA), and in private legal practice and various business ventures.

Dr Vineta Bhalla - Non-Executive Director

Vineta is a medical doctor and public health expert. Her special interest is in long term conditions and community care. She has held senior roles within the Department of Health and the NHS. She has recently stepped down as the national programme director for community healthcare at NHS Trust Development Authority. She has previously served as the executive director for hospitals at the Singapore Ministry of Health and held positions on various national and international boards.

Andrew Farrell - Non-Executive Director

Andrew Farrell Joined the Trust in August. He has more than 30 years’ experience in senior finance and operational roles, most recently during the past 12 years as Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer at the London School of Economics. He has been involved in significant organisational, operational, estates/facilities and IT development and transformation projects at Xerox Corporation and the LSE.

Janet Rubin - Non-Executive Director

Janet has extensive functional expertise up to and including Board level responsibilities as Group HR Director of Littlewoods, a complex and diverse £2 billion group. Janet was Deputy Group HR Director of FTSE 100 WH Smith and was HR and Board Director of B&Q. She also held Director positions with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and ten other organisations. As well as her current coaching commitments, Janet is a consultant to a major bank, adding to the number of financial sector organisations she has been involved with including the Association of British Insurers.

Professor David Taube - Designate Non-Executive Director 

Professor Taube joined The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust as a university nominated non-executive director in April 2013. He is Professor of Transplantation Medicine at Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC). David is one of the UK's leading renal physicians. Educated at Oxford and Cambridge universities, he has pioneered models of renal medicine and transplantation and led the development of the West London Renal and Transplant Centre (WLRaTC).

Non Executive

Andrew van Doorn - Non-Executive Director

Andrew is the Chief Executive of HACT a national innovation charity, social enterprise and industry-focused think/do tank established by the housing association sector. He is the lead for all of HACT’s work on integrating housing and health, working with NHS Trusts and housing associations to develop new community based healthcare partnerships. 

Andrew has worked nationally and internationally in housing and vulnerable people, supported housing and care, community development and wider social policy and practice for 23 years.  He has been a member of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) Vulnerable and Older People Advisory Group for 6 years, and is currently Chair of Stonewall Housing.

Ruwan Weerasekera - Non-Executive Director

Ruwan joined the Trust in September. He is currently a Managing Director of UBS AG, where he has also been Chief Operating Officer of Securities. Ruwan has a local interest in the Trust, having lived in Harrow with his family for many years.

Peter Commins - Non-Executive Director 

Peter joined the Trust in April 2017.  He has nearly 30 years’ experience working for the NHS and other healthcare related organisations in senior finance and operational roles.  Peter's most recent role was as Chief Operating Officer of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency and before that he was Finance Director at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

Executive Directors

Jacqueline Docherty - Chief Executive Officer

Dame Jacqueline joined London North West Healthcare NHS Trust as Chief Executive in April 2015.  Prior to this appointment, Jacqueline spent six years as Chief Executive at West Middlesex University Hospital after serving as Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Operations & Nursing at King’s College Hospital.

Initially qualifying as a nurse, Jacqueline held a variety of posts including Theatre Sister at the Royal Free Hospital and Senior Nurse for Acute Services at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, before being appointed Deputy Director of Nursing at West Lothian NHS Trust. 

In 1996, Jacqueline joined King’s College Hospital as Executive Director of Nursing, and in 2001 became their Director of Operations. In 2007 she was appointed Deputy Chief Executive.

Jacqueline was Acting Chief Executive at King’s from May to November 2008, before taking the position of Chief Executive at West Middlesex University Hospital in 2009. During her career Jacqueline spent four years as a member of the Management Executive at the Department of Health at the Scottish Office. She is currently Chair of the London Social Partnership Forum and Senior Responsible Officer for patient safety at Imperial College Health Partners.

In 2004 Jacqueline was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to nursing and the NHS.

Arshiya Khan - Chief Operating Officer 

Amanda Pye - Chief Nurse 

Amanda joined the Trust in September 2015, from Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust where she was Interim Director of Nursing. Prior to this Amanda held senior positions at Hull and East Yorkshire University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. She spent two years as their Chief Nursing Officer and three years as Chief Operating Officer. Amanda started her career as a District Nurse and has more than 15 years’ of nursing experience in the NHS. She has a real passion for patient care and staff engagement.

Dr Charles Cayley -  Medical Director

Educated at Middlesex Hospital Medical School, Charles joined the Trust at Central Middlesex hospital as a consultant physician in 1976. With an interest in geriatric medicine, Charles has considerable experience in secondary and community care. In 1989 he was appointed Clinical Director and was the lead clinician involved in the project team who designed and build the new Central Middlesex Hospital. With his skills and experience in clinical care, both in general medicine and care of the elderly as well as the clinical pathway management between primary, community and secondary care management of ‘doctors in difficulty’ Charles was appointed as an Associate Medical Director in 1994. In autumn 2012 he was awarded the Presidents medal at the British Geriatrics Society for services to elders over the last 37 years.

Simon Crawford - Director of Strategy

Simon took on the role of Director of Strategy in October 2015, prior to this Simon was Finance Director and Senior Responsible Officer for the merger of Ealing Hospital NHS Trust and North West London Hospital NHS Trust in April 2011. He started his career in the NHS in Wales in 1985 where he worked for five years on the external audit of the NHS. This role involved undertaking audits of hospitals and health bodies throughout Wales during which time he qualified as an accountant. On qualification he joined East Dyfed Health Authority. He joined Broadmoor Special Health Authority as its Finance Director in 1997 and became the Finance Director of West London Mental Health NHS Trust in 2001. 

Simon was appointed as the Chief Executive of WLMHT in January 2004. In July 2009  Simon joined NHS London in a wider strategic role to support NHS Trusts across London in their progress towards NHS Foundation Trust Status.

Jon Bell - Chief Financial Officer

Jon joined the Trust in October 2015 from West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. He has over twenty years’ experience in the NHS in the acute, commissioning and community services sectors plus over four years’ experience as a management consultant with Arthur Andersen.

Claire Gore -  Director of Human Resources

Claire joined the Trust in March 2015 from Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where she was Director of People for five years. Prior to joining the NHS Claire worked in the Metropolitan Police, where she held a number of HR positions and the London Borough of Brent as Strategic HR Manager for Corporate Services and Children and Families.

Claire Gore - Director of Human Resources

Nigel Myhill - Director of Estates and Facilities  

Nigel joined the Trust in September 2015, from Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth Western Australia, where he worked as Hard FM Director.  Before this he held several director of estates and facilities roles within the NHS. He has worked in mental health, primary care trusts as well as acute foundation trusts.

He is a Chartered Manager (CMgr), Chartered Engineer (CEng), member of Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM).  Nigel’s academic qualifications include a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science (MSc) along with Bachelor of Science with honours (BSc). Nigel has been Vice and National Chair of the Health, Estates and Facilities Management Association (HefmA). He has also taken part in many pan-organisational estates and facilities review and advisory groups.

Sandra Adams - Director of Corporate Affairs (Trust Secretary)

Sandra joined the Trust in April 2017 from the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) where she had held the role of Director of Corporate Governance since 2009. Sandra started in the NHS as a management trainee and her career has spanned the ambulance, specialist services, acute and  community sectors as well as commissioning and strategy development. Sandra’s first director role was at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2003 – 2009 before taking on the role at the LAS and she brings extensive corporate governance and Board Secretary experience to the role here. Sandra will be responsible for the Board Secretary role, Legal Services and Communications, and for ensuring the Trust has sound systems of corporate governance in place and meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities.
