Volunteering for us

There are currently over 450 dedicated volunteers undertaking a variety of roles at the Trust..

Volunteers work in complementary roles that provide practical help to patients and visitors. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, from a variety of different cultures, ethnicities and communities and are aged between 18 and 94. Volunteers bring many skills to make a real difference to the patient and staff experience.

Our volunteers are based at Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal, Northwick Park Hospital and St Mark’s Hospital in Harrow. We do not currently offer volunteering opportunities at Ealing Hospital and Community Services, however please check back in the near future.

Please note: volunteering does not involve work experience or clinical attachments. Work experience enables a person to sample working in a particular role and does not constitute volunteering within this setting. To find out more about work experience email: lnwh-tr.workexperience@nhs.net

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers are placed in a wide variety of roles within the hospital. Our volunteer roles include:

  • Patient Companions
  • Meet & Greet
  • Wayfinding
  • Administrative support
  • Chaplaincy
  • Voluntary Cars

Who can volunteer?

We are looking for enthusiastic people who are aged at least 18 and eligible to work in the UK. You need to be able to display some key personal qualities such as empathy and the ability to listen and observe. You need to be reliable, show initiative and attention to detail.

We ask you to give us at least four hours of your time a week for at least six months, so please consider whether you can realistically fit this commitment in with your other responsibilities.

Why become a volunteer?

People volunteer for many different reasons such as:

  • You enjoy helping others
  • You want to contribute to your local community
  • You want to utilise and develop your skills
  • You want to meet new people
  • You want to gain insight working in a busy hospital environment
