Full details of the recruitment process can be found here: Recruitment Process
What volunteering opportunities do you have?
We have a variety of roles, ranging from direct patient contact to admin support. However, roles are advertised based upon the priorities of each hospital in the Trust. Take a look at our current list of volunteering opportunities to see if there is something suitable for you. .
Do all applicants get accepted for volunteering?
Due to the high number of applications, we are unable to place everyone. This is why it is important that you provide us with as much relevant information as possible in your application form and subsequent interview and/or training days.
What age do I have to be to volunteer?
You must be a minimum of 18 years to apply. There is no upper age limit and in fact our oldest volunteer is 95.
I am interested in doing work experience at LNWH. Can you arrange this?
Volunteers do not carry out (or shadow) clinical work or do work experience. If you are interested in either a clinical placement or work experience, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I am a student looking for a placement in healthcare. Can I do my placement at LNWH?
We are unable to arrange student placements through Voluntary Services. For further information, please see the Education & Training page.
I am free over the summer holidays - can I volunteer for this period only?
We ask you to commit to a minimum of 6-9 months for a volunteering role. This is because preparation to become a volunteer is intensive and recruiting volunteers for any less time commitment would not be cost effective.
Will I be interviewed?
Yes, you will be required to attend an informal individual or group interview.
Will I need to provide references or other information?
You will need to provide the names and contact details of two referees who have known you for one year or more, one of whom should be in a professional capacity. These can be course tutors/lecturers, community leaders, religious leaders, employers or somewhere you have volunteered. Long term unemployed applicants may provide the name of a personal referee, e.g. friend.
How much time do I have to give to volunteering?
This is up to you! Ideally we ask for a regular commitment of at least 4 hours per week for nine months. However the time commitment will also depend on the type of volunteering activity you are looking to do and we do aim to be as flexible wherever possible.
Will I need a police check?
As part of the ongoing commitment to the safety of our patients, visitors and staff, all candidates will be required to undergo a disclosure check through the Disclosure and Barring Service appropriate to the role and in line with current government legislation.
Will I have to attend any training?
Yes, all volunteers will be required to attend a Volunteer Induction Programme and a placement induction prior to commencement.
Will I be reimbursed for my travel?
We will reimburse public transport fares for travel within the local vicinity.
Will I require a health check?
Yes, you will be asked to complete a work health questionnaire which may require attending an appointment with Occupational Health.
Can I apply and start straight away?
